[ARCHIVED] Emergency Management to Test Wireless Emergency Alert System on Sept. 26th

Wireless Emergency Alerts

On September 26th at approximately 2:00 p.m., San Miguel County Emergency Management will be testing the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system. This is an FCC regulated alert and warning tool, we had to apply for permission to test it.  Facts about WEA can be found on the FEMA website.

***The message will state that this is a test.***

This test message will be sent to all mobile devices in our county. It will go to mobile devices in the form of an alert, similar to a text message. We are doing this test in conjunction with Gunnison County Office of Emergency Management so that we can test multiple activations in the same area and see how the system responds.

WEA is part of the larger IPAWS system. We will not be testing the full IPAWS system, only the WEA portion of it. Please call the SMC Emergency Management office at 970-728-1911 if you have any questions.
